Wireless High-Speed Internet Access
(with "No Strings Attached")
What Is Wireless Internet?
Wireless Internet Access uses radio frequency signals to exchange information
between your computer and the Internet. This technology is not all that
new, but what is new is that nearly all computers available today include
wireless access hardware as standard. Realizing this increased availability
of built-in wireless, many more Internet service providers are offering
wireless connection services, and this increased competition is driving
down the cost to the consumer.
"Always On" Connectivity
Just like the other types of broadband access, Wireless Internet is
an 'always on' Internet connection. The only thing you need to access the
Internet is to switch on your computer. With Wireless Internet, you can
surf the web, manage your email, and download files at high speed (20 times
faster than dial-up, or more), and you can do all these things without
needing to be close to a modem connected by a wire, as long as you're within
range of our nearest wireless access point. This is because Wireless Internet
does not require you to be close to a fixed modem (whether Cable or DSL).
'Always On' is great, but 'always on anywhere' is much better.
Broadband From Wireless When Other Technologies Fail
Although Broadband is accessible from virtually anywhere these days,
sometimes there are problems with actually getting a broadband service
in your location. Problems such as pair gain lines, Remote Integrated Multiplexers
(RIMs), and also distance from the exchange, even in top residential or
business areas, can all stop you from getting broadband access. Wireless
Internet can often solve these problems and provide a high-speed, broadband
Internet access, because it doesn't rely on an un-broken copper path between
your location and the central exchange. Many times our service can
be realized even if it's several miles to our nearest tower!
Yes, You Still Need A Modem
With any sort of Internet access, you need a modem. In the case
of Wireless Internet, the wireless modem is connected to your computer
or wireless router and then communicates using radio signals to a local
receiver. For a laptop computer, the wireless modem is simply a card that
either slides directly into the PC card slot, or is built-in internally.
Desktop computers can use a USB or Ethernet device that simply plugs in.
Wireless Internet Is Freedom
Wireless Internet gives you the freedom of high-speed Internet access
from home, the airport, at work or motel room. Once you've experienced
Wireless Broadband, it's really hard to go back to anything less. No other
sort of broadband access is as liberating as Wireless Internet Access.
